Winter in the northern Black Forest

The northern Black Forest begins behind Baden-Baden and has beautiful little towns where you can spend your vacation in a quiet and secluded place. The Mummelsee is just one highlight that awaits you in winter . You can walk around this small lake and say hello to the gnomes and mermen. Here in the mountains you will discover many curiosities. You can find ice skating rinks in larger cities throughout the northern Black Forest. Visit the ice sports center at Entauenpark in Pforzheim, the Polarion ice stadium in Bad Liebenzell or the open-air artificial ice rink in Bühlertal and do your pirouettes. There are also opportunities to move on the ice in Baiersbronn and Offenburg. Once there is snow, you can also practice your cross-country skiing on cross-country ski trails and winter hiking trails in the northern Black Forest. The paths run from north to south and from west to east through the entire Black Forest and offer numerous attractions. If you want a change from winter sports, you can simply take the two well-known historic railways through the snowy landscape in the north. The Albtalbahn takes you from Ettlingen to Bad Herrenalb. The Achertalbahn runs from Achern to Ottenhöfen. Especially at Christmas you shouldn't miss the famous "Castle Christmases". The Karlsruhe Castle and the two castles in beautiful Baden-Baden are on the list for this.

In Titisee-Neustadt you will find a toboggan run and for the really brave there is the Hochfirst ski jump, which is used for ski jumping. Even further south on Schluchsee is the town of Lenzkirch with its toboggan run and numerous of the 2000 km long cross-country ski trails, as well as three of a total of 200 ski lifts that are located throughout the Black Forest.
