The Black Forest in winter is a dream destination. Hidden beneath the snow are numerous slopes, a major tourist attraction for winter sports enthusiasts every year. Here you can ski, practice downhill and cross-country skiing, and also enjoy tobogganing, winter hiking , or even ice skating. All of this is offered in the Black Forest during the winter season. Book your ideal holiday apartment or house in the heart of the forest and enjoy the winter tranquility and snow-covered treetops on a winter hike along one of the many beautiful winter hiking trails in the Black Forest.
The Northern Black Forest begins just beyond Baden-Baden and boasts beautiful little villages where you can enjoy a peaceful and secluded holiday. Lake Mummelsee is just one of the highlights that awaits you in winter . Stroll around this small lake and say "hello" to the gnomes and water sprites. Here in the mountains, you'll discover many curiosities. Ice skating rinks can be found throughout the Northern Black Forest, in the larger towns and cities. Visit the ice sports center at Entauenpark in Pforzheim, the Polarion ice rink in Bad Liebenzell, or the open-air artificial ice rink in Bühlertal and practice your pirouettes. There are also opportunities to skate in Baiersbronn and Offenburg. Once the snow has fallen, you can also enjoy cross-country skiing on the trails and winter hiking paths in the Northern Black Forest. These trails stretch from north to south and west to east across the entire Black Forest and offer numerous attractions. For a change of pace from winter sports, take a ride on one of the two famous historic railways through the snowy landscape in the north. The Albtalbahn railway takes you from Ettlingen to Bad Herrenalb. The Achertalbahn railway runs from Achern to Ottenhöfen. Especially at Christmas, you shouldn't miss the famous "Schlossweihnachten" (Christmas at the Castles). Karlsruhe Palace and the two castles in beautiful Baden-Baden are among the places to visit.

The area around Lake Titisee and the Feldberg mountain is a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts seeking a well-rounded winter holiday. Besides winter hiking and snowshoeing, you can also enjoy downhill skiing. The Feldberg area boasts arguably the largest ski resort in the entire Black Forest. It's also the highest mountain in the low mountain range, reaching up to 1,500 meters. Here, you can easily explore the nature park for a winter hike or enjoy skiing down the slopes. The Feldberg region is considered the most important winter sports region in the entire Black Forest each year. If solitude isn't your thing, you can visit the city of Freiburg to the south, located right next to its local mountain, the Schauinsland. Freiburg offers plenty to see and do in winter, and it's also the warmest region in Germany, yet still boasts numerous ski resorts. In Titisee-Neustadt, you'll find a toboggan run, and for the truly adventurous, there's the Hochfirst ski jump. Further south, on the shores of Lake Schluchsee, lies the village of Lenzkirch, with its toboggan run and numerous cross-country ski trails (out of a total of 2,000 km), as well as three of the 200 ski lifts found throughout the Black Forest. Winter sports are very popular here. Besides the well-known sport of skiing, you'll usually find activities like snow tubing or rides in a snow groomer, which can be a lot of fun.
But a winter hike is an absolute highlight!
