The Black Forest is the most visited tourist destination of all the low mountain ranges and the largest contiguous low mountain range in Germany. It is situated in a sunny, warm location in the far southwest of Baden-Württemberg.
It is mostly heavily forested and stretches from the High Rhine in the far south to the Kraichgau region in the north. This makes a holiday in a Black Forest vacation rental with a dog ideal. To the west, it borders the Upper Rhine Valley, and to the east, it merges into the Gäu, the Baar, and the hilly Klettgau region. Among the larger cities, Freiburg and Baden-Baden stand out. Strasbourg in France and Basel are also within easy reach. Baden-Baden, for example, boasts several Roman thermal baths, a famous casino, and a festival. The thermal baths of Bad Herrenalb and Bad Wildbad, as well as the panoramic pool in Freudenstadt, are also worthwhile destinations for swimmers. Lake Constance is also easily accessible.

Long-distance hiking trails were established in the last century, thanks primarily to the volunteer Black Forest associations. These include the Westweg , Mittelweg, Ostweg, Kinzigtaler Jakobsweg, and many other very scenic routes. In recent years, many themed trails have been created, such as the Dornstetten Barefoot Park, the Sensory Park in Haslach, and the Schluchtensteig (Gorge Trail).
