Hike in the footsteps of the log drivers on the Rafting Trail ! Hiking from Loßburg to Alpirsbach is pure relaxation, and you can make all sorts of discoveries in Loßburg. Loßburg is located 9 kilometers from Freudenstadt and Alpirsbach. Here begins the beautiful Kinzig Valley. The excursion is ideally situated a vacation home in Loßburg in the small hamlet of Salzenweiler Oberbrändi log cabin , and is also easily accessible from Alpirsbach. By car, the Rafting Trail can be reached from Enzklösterle and Seewald in 30 minutes. Which of dream vacation rentals is right for you?

Use your KONUS guest card and travel to Loßburg by train free of charge. From Loßburg train station, follow the signs to the Flößerpfad (Rafting Trail). Alternatively, you can park in the car park above the Loßburg outdoor swimming pool. However, you will then need to retrieve your car from there (by train from Alpirsbach to Loßburg), as it is not a circular route. The trail is just a few minutes from your Black Forest holiday apartment .

Magic Land with Fairy Tale Trail

If you're traveling with your children, the little ones will surely love Loßburg's Magic Land. There, they'll find a small lake and the source of the Kinzig River. Six exciting stories for children are told along the Fairy Tale Trail. The Kinzig is the river that gave its name to the beautiful Kinzig Valley. From Magic Land, you can then begin your hike on the Raftsmen's Trail.

Or you can hike to the Vogteiturm (Bailiff's Tower), which is a 20-minute walk from Lake Kinzig. It stands 35 meters tall. From the Rodter Höhe (Rodter Heights), you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the entire Black Forest region. Depending on the weather, the view extends across the Neckar floodplain to the Swabian Alps.

Our children don't really like hiking, but on this hike (10 kilometers) they loved the story of Felix and especially the view, as well as taking a break at the Vogtsmichelhof and using the playground.

The Rafting Trail begins at the Loßburg/Zauberland outdoor swimming pool. From Loßburg, the trail descends through the forest towards Alpirsbach. It follows the Kinzig River, winds through the woods, and leads through one of the Black Forest's most beautiful valleys. Simply follow the rafters' own signage. Along the entire route, you'll learn a great deal about the history of rafting through numerous information panels and a real raft, which is also perfect for a first picnic. Refreshed, the trail continues through the valley, across meadows and fields, and past old farmhouses. For children, in addition to the many information panels about the work of the rafters, there are also panels telling the story of the fairy tale "Felix and the Hat.".

The last information panel can be found below the " Vogtsmichelhof " snack bar. A relaxing break here is worthwhile to fortify yourself for the final stretch of the trail. The Vogtsmichelhof not only offers good food but is also very popular with children. There's a lovely playground where they can run around and play while the adults relax with cider and beer. From here, the trail continues down the valley to the monastery town of Alpirsbach.

Of course, you can also do the route by bicycle/mountain bike. Or the children can take the bikes while the parents hike. The only difficult section is a short one at the beginning, as it's a bit steep through the forest. Those who wish can download an audio guide . Two versions are available: one for adults, which tells the story of the raftsman Johann Staiger and is supplemented by the many information panels; and another version specifically for children, in which Johann Staiger's son, Uli Staiger, tells his story.

Anyone who enjoys geocaching or would like to try it can borrow a device from the Loßburg tourist information office. Four GPS puzzles invite you to a treasure hunt along the route between Loßburg and Wolfach. For each puzzle solved, you receive a stamp on the "Raftsman's Stamp Card," which can be obtained from the tourist information office. This allows you to tackle the Raftsman's Trail in stages. Perhaps from Loßburg to Alpirsbach and then work your way to Wolfach in further day trips.

You can rent a carrier backpack, bicycle trailer or buggy or handcart at the Loßburg Information for a small fee.

Sterneck Castle Ruins

Sterneck Castle ruins were built in the 13th century and fortified with several outer baileys in the 15th century. The lower part of the north tower dates back to the Middle Ages.

Schömberg district

Schömberg offers beautiful hiking trails, and Nordic walking and mountain biking are also possible. In winter, you can go tobogganing and cross-country skiing. The Gasthaus Sonne is known for its good, traditional food. The village also has an organic farm with a farm shop and a traditional wine tavern.

The local history museum is located at Hauptstraße 15 and displays everything from archaeological finds to Black Forest clocks. There are nice play areas for children and many things from bygone eras to discover.

Opening hours: Wednesdays 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, Sundays 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, during the winter months only on Sundays 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.

The Heimbach floodplain in Betzweiler is perfect for leisurely walks. The beautiful natural surroundings and tranquility offer wonderful relaxation. The Fischerhäusle (Fisherman's House) houses an exhibition about local flora and fauna. It is open from May to October on the first Sunday of each month from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
