On the trail of Bismarck - From the Mummelsee to the Honisgrinde

The circular hike to the Hornisgrinde is accessible in both summer and winter, making it a unique experience in every season.

If you want the northern Black Forest to be at your feet, you should venture onto the Hornisgrindenpfad, . The adventurous path takes us to the highest mountain in the northern Black Forest, the Hornisgrinde (1163 meters), where a magnificent view awaits us as a reward for the short but still sharp climb. The unique mix of nature, limitless views and family-friendly/disabled-accessible orientation make this hike an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

We follow the narrow, technically easy forest path further up towards Hornisgrinde. After about 20 minutes we come to the normal path rising from Mummelsee , which we follow for the last few meters to the Hornisgrinde observation tower. Once we arrive on the high plateau, we can expect an unforgettable view of the Rhine Valley plain to France and far into the Vosges. Now we stand at the highest point in the northern Black Forest, the Honrisgrinde (1163

    Meter).

The further path takes us towards the Bismarck Tower, which was restored a few years ago and is now freely accessible. Here, too, we have a magnificent view over the entire Hornisgrinde and deep into the Black Forest.

If you want, you can take a close look at the impressive SWR transmission mast, which is just a few meters away.

The actual circular route, however, takes us over the numerous raised moors of the Hornisgrinde towards Dreifürstenfels. On a secured wooden path, surrounded by a swampy grassy landscape, after another 15 minutes we reach the Dreifürstenfels and at the same time the highest point in Württemberg. A very special moment, especially for the Swabians among us.

From here the circular route takes us back towards Mummelsee, which we reach after about 30 minutes. We are now back at the starting point of our tour.

Our tip: There is freshly baked wood-fired bread at the parking lot. Typically Swabian and uniquely delicious!

An unforgettable tour that brings you closer to our region, which has an incomparable landscape. Anyone who is on holiday in the Black Forest should definitely not miss a tour to the Hornisgrinde:

    • Duration: approx. 2.5 hours on the Hornisgrindenweg from Mummelsee
    • Requirements: good physical condition, sturdy shoes, not technically demanding
    • Starting point: Mummelsee, Schwarzwaldhochstrasse
