    ChurchMonasteryMuseum

Wittichen Monastery and the monastery museum

The grave of Saint Luitgard is located here. That's why hundreds of thousands of believers have made pilgrimages to Wittichen since the 16th century to ask for strength and consolation in prayer. The Luitgard Festival takes place in Wittichen every year on the second Sunday in October. After the ceremonial service in the baroque monastery church, a procession takes place through the Witticher Valley in honor of the founder of the monastery. The monastery museum lives up to its name in two respects. On the one hand, it is located in the monastery area of the charming Witticher Valley, 5 km from Schenkenzell, and on the other hand, its exhibits come almost exclusively from the monastery itself, which used to be much larger.

Opening times: By appointment. Telephone: 07836/939751. Admission: Adults: €2.00.
