    Feldberg summit winter

    Feldberg - from the “highest”.

It is Germany's highest mountain outside the Alps and the highest in Baden-Württemberg; its summit is 1,493 meters above sea level.

It is not just a bump in the landscape, it shapes the landscape and even supports a community named after it on its rocky shoulders. We're talking about the "Highest" - a nickname that the Feldberg has truly earned. But this doesn't just apply to the mountain itself:

The town of Feldberg in the beautiful district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald is often advertised with the slogan "The highest in the Black Forest" - and Feldberg-Tort at a location of 1277 meters above sea level is definitely that. Strictly speaking, Feldberg-Ort is the highest municipality in Germany.

That alone makes the two "Feldbergs" a temptation, a challenge for all hikers and adventurers and therefore a must among the excursion destinations for Black Forest vacationers.

    Feldberg – the mountain

However, the height alone does not make the Feldberg so attractive. One of the largest and oldest nature reserves in Baden-Württemberg stretches across it, offering an unforgettable insight into the flora and fauna. The Feldberg nature reserve has existed since 1937 and extends over around 42 square kilometers. In addition, of course, there is the panoramic view during the ascent and at the summit - an experience that will leave nature lovers speechless.

Of course, there are numerous hiking trails on, around and around this mountain, each with its own charm.

However, the Feldberg-Steig is particularly popular. This premium hiking trail begins and ends at the Haus der Natur in Feldberg and leads along a picturesque panoramic path that, in good weather, offers views as far as the Alps and the Vosges. The path also leads over the Seebuck, the second highest Black Forest peak. But the absolute highlight is climbing the Feldberg summit. The Feldberg-Steig offers an ascent and descent of 570 meters each and extends over a length of a good 12 kilometers. The walking time is a good four hours.

Also worth the walk - and visible from the Feldberg-Steig - is the Feldberg Lake at a height of 1,109 meters - a nine-hectare feast for the eyes and a place of peace, a place that fills the heart and soul with its beauty touched.

The Feldberg is particularly interesting as a ski area for winter sports enthusiasts. If you prefer to take things a little slower, you might enjoy snowshoeing. Nordic walking is ideal in summer. Of course you can also climb, surf in the wind or fly with a paraglider.

If you don't want to walk the entire route to the summit, you can take the Feldberg cable car. Children can even learn something on the Feldberg on the gnome trail, where they can learn about the capercaillie in a playful way.

What is truly unique, however, is the Feldberg Tower. It not only offers a sensational view from the eleventh floor. The Black Forest Ham Museum is also located in the former radio tower.

    Feldberg - the community

The municipality of Feldberg is a merger of the three formerly independent municipalities of Feldberg, Altglashütten and Falkau, which themselves consist of several districts. Overall, Feldberg is divided into 30 villages, houses, tins, etc., which together create the idyllic picture of the Feldberg community, which has around 1,900 inhabitants.

The community is still quite young, having only been founded on January 1, 1939. Today it is considered family and tourism-friendly and its offerings are based entirely on the Feldberg, which has so much to offer in terms of winter sports, nature conservation and hiking trails. The House of Nature in Feldberg offers the ideal information and starting point for all sporting activities.

The Feldberg – the complete package

“The Highest” is definitely a destination for active, nature-loving people who want to experience something. The Feldberg offers a variety of activities that are tempting both in winter and at any other time of the year. And even for those who don't necessarily want to do sports, a visit is worth it, because who would want to miss this panoramic view?
