Swabian saving for giggles and catching dragon tails: games for large groups

Lots of people in the holiday home always means lots of questions. And our ears are always alert to our holiday guests' ideas.

That's why the idea machine in our heads spewed out something for groups of sixteen to twenty or more vacationers. This time too, the legends of our mythical homeland play a role!

Holiday house games for 4 - 8 people

Holiday house games for 10 - 14 people

Do you also have great game ideas for holiday homes tumbling out of your head? We would be delighted if you would send us an email.

Action-packed movement game for the holiday home garden: The Silverbell of Mühlenhansel (for 16 people).

Dierle in the forest is looking for Muehlenhansel

According to legend, Mühlenhansel is a good spirit from the Black Forest who lives with the silver miller in the mill in Rötenbach. The Höllentalbahn (Freiburg–Titisee–Donaueschingen) runs through Rötenbach. There, the mill Hansel and his little helpers - the Hanselchen - are said to have ensured prosperity by grinding the grain at night. On stormy nights, the bell often rang by itself, which is why people thought that the silver miller's wealth was connected to this little bell. And so of course they wanted to steal it from the silver mill. But Mühlenhansel guards it closely. Can you outsmart him and steal his bell?

    Age of players: 5 – 125

    Number of players: 7 – 20

Required: A bell or small shiny object.

How to play: One of the players is chosen as Mühlenhansel. He stands with his legs apart in the middle of a meadow/larger room and places the silver bell between his legs. The Mühlenhansel moves his arms in all directions like mill wings. The remaining players stand in a circle. At one command, everyone tries to steal the bell. But be careful! Whoever the mill Hansel touches with his arms becomes a sack of flour and is eliminated from the game. Can you find a trick to still get the bell?

Fun warm-up game to get tired based on the idea of New Games: Catch the tail of the Belchen dragon

There have always been many myths surrounding the treeless hilltop of the Belchen, which rises to 1,414 m above sea level. In Celtic, “Belchen” means “The Radiant One”. And according to legend, the Celts used this mountain, on the summit of which the communities of Münstertal, Schönenberg and Kleines Wiesental meet, as an astronomical center. Our house goblin – Dierle – is firmly convinced that a friendly dragon lived there in prehistoric times. Due to boredom and lack of fellow dragons, he often tried to chase his own tail. Can you do that too?

    Age of players: 5 – 125

    Number of players: 10 – 30

How to play: All players stand behind each other and hold the player in front around the waist. The last player puts a colorful cloth in his pocket as a dragon tail. The dragon's head now tries to hunt this cloth. But be careful! The tail tries to avoid it. And of course everyone playing has to hold on tight the whole time. Once the dragon's tail has been captured, the player lines up at the back of the dragon's head and then puts the dragon's tail in his pocket.

Games for rainy days and fun evenings by the fireplace in the holiday home: the Häberle family saves their legs

    black forest witcheswitches broom

Are you curious to get to know a little bit about the Black Forest mentality? Then this game is just right for a group vacation! Here in the Black Forest, not only do many words end in a friendly “-le”, but we also like to use “schbara” (to save). What? Everything possible! This can sometimes be a step that you don't necessarily need because there are other options in the holiday accommodation. This fun warm-up game based on the theme of “families in the holiday home” is about speed, skill and finding the best position.

    Age of players: 5 – 125

    Number of players:10 – 30

    Required: pieces of paper, pens

How to play: 20 pieces of paper are written, five of which have a “family name” on them. It's good if the names sound quite similar to "Häberle, Schwägerle, Däberle,räderle". In each family there are 5 people of different ages (e.g. the youngest daughter, the middle son, the eldest daughter, the mother and the father.) Each player now draws a piece of paper face down. On a command, the families have to find each other, line up in age order and support each other so that they touch the earth with as few legs as possible. The fastest family gets 5 points, the second 4, the third 3, etc. There is also an extra point for each leg saved. The family with the most points wins.

Recipes for holiday homes for 16 people

    Enzklösterles Zwuglkappn

Enzklösterle is the blueberry village of the Black Forest - with a blueberry festival, a blueberry house and countless blueberry recipes. Our Dierle is also a big blueberry fan and claims that he regularly meets the “Zwugln” in the sweet fruit. “A Zwugl” is a dwarf in our Black Forest who of course also needs a “Kapp” – a hat. For a successful family holiday, this is an ideal recipe to bake a simple and delicious Enzklösterle dessert with children on a rainy day.

    Ingredients for 16 people

    4 rolls of puff pastry
    2 packs of marzipan
    1 jar of blueberry jam
    1 egg
    Powdered sugar
    Pack of vanilla
ice cream Fresh blueberries for decoration

    preparation

Each child draws a dwarf hat measuring approx. 10 cm on a piece of paper. This is cut out, placed on the rolled out puff pastry and cut out twice along the edge with a knife. Adults can help with smaller children. Then add a piece of marzipan and a dollop of blueberry jam on one half. The second half of the dwarf hat is placed on top and the whole thing is pressed firmly on the edge. Each child can then decorate the “Zwuglkapp” with leftover dough as they wish. Attention: It helps not to use too much filling! Then brush the filled pockets with beaten egg and bake at 200 degrees for about 12 - 15 minutes.

Dust with powdered sugar, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a few fresh blueberries to make Zwugl and Riesen happy!

Party recipe and hit for the whole family: fiery red dragon slayer pot

The dragon slayer pot tastes like spaghetti Bolognese, is ideal for using up leftover pasta, is delicious for small and large dragons and is also easy to prepare. An ideal recipe for staying full and happy in a holiday home with a really large group. And it also serves well as a basis for a bachelor party with one or two cold drinks.

    Ingredients for 18 people

    1500g minced meat
    5 tbsp oil
    4 onions
    6 cans of peeled tomatoes
    4 cloves of garlic
    3 diced peppers
    5 diced carrots
    2 packets of crescent pasta
    40 sliced mushrooms
    2.5 l water
    1 cup of cream
    2 cups of sour cream
    Salt and pepper
    4 vegetable stock cubes
    Some basil

    preparation

Salt the minced meat and fry it in oil until crumbly. When it has a nice color, add the chopped onions and chopped garlic and fry until the onions are translucent. Add the vegetables, mushrooms, tomatoes, vegetable stock and 3 liters of water. Let simmer for 30 minutes. In the meantime, bring water to the boil, add salt and cook the croissant noodles until al dente. Finally, stir the creme fraiche and cream into the soup, season with salt and pepper and fold in the croissant noodles. Sprinkle with fresh basil before serving or simply place a pot on the table.

Alternatively, you can make vegetarian dragons happy by frying brown mushrooms with a little tomato paste instead of the minced meat and adding a can of corn.

Want to be fed up with 20 people in a holiday home? Goes! And very tasty!

    Wild Alpirsbacher beer goulash

Alpirsbach in the northern Black Forest is famous for its good beer. Of course, a beer recipe shouldn't be missing! Preferably one with wild boar from the local forest. Of course, it doesn't hurt to try a beer while you're cooking! This recipe is suitable if you book our two Alpirsbach holiday homes, Dieboldsberg and Frohnwald, with a large group. But even on the Feldberg in our largest house, the recipe fills many hungry stomachs! It warms you up nicely on a skiing holiday and is a hot tip after a long hike.

    Ingredients for 20 people

2500g wild boar goulash (alternatively pork goulash)
    3 bottles of Alpirsbacher beer
    5 onions
    5 carrots
    4 cloves of garlic
    2.5 liters of vegetable broth
    8 tablespoons of clarified butter
    4 teaspoons of sweet mustard

    6 tablespoons of cranberries
    Pepper and salt to taste
4 teaspoons of sweet paprika powder
    1.5 cups of sour cream

    preparation

Cut onion into small cubes. Cut garlic into thin slices. Finely grate carrots. Heat the clarified butter and fry the goulash with a little salt until it has a nice roasted color and the water has evaporated. Then add onions, garlic, tomato paste, sweet mustard and carrots and continue to fry for a short time. Caution: The tomato paste burns quickly, so the pot must be carefully monitored during this phase. Add paprika powder and then immediately pour in the beer. Allow the liquid to reduce by about half. Then add the vegetable broth and cranberries. Let simmer for 1.5 hours with the lid on. Shortly before serving, add sour cream and season with salt and pepper.

What goes with it? Spaetzle, of course! Turn on the fireplace in the living room, open a beer and the real Black Forest hut holiday feeling is there immediately!
